What is Magnetic field-

We have obeerved that a wire carrying a current exerts a force on anothe wire alzo carrying a current and parallel to it.
It is obvious from the figure that magnetic field exists in planes perpendicular to the plane of the conductor carrying current. A stationary charge produces only on electric field in the space around it, while a moving charge generates,. in addition, a magnetic field. If you hold up a tiny compass in the vicinity of a current carrying wire, it circles around the wire.
Thus a wire carrying a steady current has the same effect on another wire carrying curreent as that of a permanent magnet. If a conductor carrying current is held in the right hand such that thumb lies along the wire in the direction of the current and fingers curl around in the direction of the magnetic field.
